Everyone knows the old saying that a dog is man’s best friend.   Since I am somewhat of a literary canine, I know some other ones like Edith Wharton’s quote “My little dog – a heartbeat at my feet.”   Now, that’s a very sweet one, isn’t it?   And, of course, there’s also “Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet.”   Somebody named Colette said that.   When you are a Peep known by only one name, you are obviously famous.   Enough said.

So, we dogs occupy a special spot in the heart of a Peep, do we not?   Geez Louise.   Give me a break with all this sappy stuff.   When you live with Pretty and Slow, life isn’t a bowl of cherries, let me tell you.   And you can forget about the “heartbeat at my feet” crap, Edith.   All I can say is that you must have had some pretty boring dogs, for God’s sake.   If my life consisted of sitting around with Slow and/or waiting for Pretty to come back from a tennis lesson, I’d be a Dull Dog, which I can thankfully say I am Most Def Not!   I mean, seriously, Colette.   If your idea of a perfect companion is a dog, I can see why your parents didn’t give you their last name.

I tend to not make Peep friends easily because they have little quirks that annoy the hell out of me.  Take Slow, for example.   Ever since I’ve started writing, she is FOREVER following me around waving that cell phone at me.    I am sick to death of that woman and her phone!   Get away, get away, get away from me, you old bag!   Go find yourself a new hobby, or get a real camera, will you please?????   These pictures never capture moi in my best light – I need better pictures, better pictures, better pictures!   You are driving me crazy with this bullshit!

Whew.   I needed to get that off my chest.   At any rate, I have a new best Peep friend.   It is the Smiley Boy, and I may be able to finally fulfill all those sweet sayings about dogs.   I may be his best friend, if I can keep those other dogs away from him long enough to establish our relationship.   I never realized how much work is involved in making friends, and I’m not sure it’s worth the effort, but I’ll give it the old Camp Bow Wow try.

He loves for me to fall asleep in his arms.   I think that’s a step in the right direction for Smiley Boy and moi.  Good friends forever.
