Well Sports Fans, all good things must come to an end someday – and The Red Man sees that “someday” has arrived for the old woman Slow and Pretty’s favorite Ol’ Bald Coach Steve Spurrier who has been in charge of the Chicken Coop out at Williams Brice Stadium for more than a decade, which is ten years in English. And that’s a long time if anyone is counting….which we are at Casa de Canterbury.
I knew we would come back
Pretty’s family has always loved the Gamecocks –
especially Sis
Number One Son was raised a Gamecock fan
Of course, Slow and Pretty loved the Cocks
and the whole family loved the fun times
Coach Spurrier gave them
they are sad to see him go, but
he’s ready to move on
The Red Man hereby inducts Coach Spurrier into the Paw Snaps and Twirls Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as the leader of a Gamecock Movement from football obscurity to a nationally recognized program during a decade of hope, promise and deliverance.
All of us at Casa de Canterbury wish you the very best as you ride off into your next adventures and thank you for your spirit and spunk – to say we’ll miss you is an understatement.
Get me outta here, Percy…real dogs don’t cry.
Cocks? cuz they are roosters or men? I will bark for them if you want me too, we do not do sports.. woof!

Thanks for barking, Fredrieka!! Yes, the Gamecocks belong to the University of South Carolina as its mascot, of all things!! Often, it is just shortened to the Cocks which actually makes it funny for two lesbians to support them so fervently…:)

I hope HBC turns up as a network analyst next season, he is the best at commentary. Bet we haven’t seen the last of him. He had an amazing run, one of the best.

He had an amazing run, plgcm!! I think he’ll be mentioned in the same breath with Darrell Royal – at least, by me…and how about the Horns win Saturday over OU – time for them to win one!!
I hope we do see Steve on television…he’s great at commentary for sure…I’m going to miss him.

I do totally get that, Robin – and we are looking forward to having grandchildren to support – Number One Son was a high school quarterback and pitcher for various baseball teams and we loved supporting him! 🙂

My humans and I were truly sad to see the Old Bald Coach hang up his visor. While we weren’t huge fans during his University of Florida years, something about the genteel nature of South Carolina seemed to soften him in a good way. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing him on Saturday mornings in fall as we sip adult beverages and prepare for the football day ahead. We’d like that very much. By the way, word on the street in the Bayou State is that he finally got to coach a home game in Tiger Stadium, so he could call his career complete. 😉

Yes, that’s probably correct – I heard he signed with a big sports agent group so we’ll be seeing him somewhere making his little witticisms on TV no doubt.
Pretty and Slow hated him when he was at Florida, too – they thought he ran up the score too much on the pitiful Gamecocks!
But they grew to love him when the shoe was on the other foot. 🙂
We laughed out loud about the Bayou State gossip!!
We will never forget the graciousness the LSU showed the Gamecocks. Truly. We are LSU fans forever. No kidding.
Thank you for the good sportsmanship that’s an example of human kindness in a world usually known for winning is everything…

Awwww, your comment gave Mommy goosebumps. She read yesterday that the auction for Leonard Fournette’s signed joursey (along with Spurrier- and Miles-signed helmets) runs through this weekend. Here’s hoping that it raises beaucoup bucks for the good people of South Carolina.
