So many of you have written comments, sent cards and e-mails, brought food and been extremely kind and supportive of Pretty and the Old Woman Slow and Squirrel Chaser Spike in the days following our losses of The Red Man and Tennis Ball Obsessed Chelsea.
We want you all to know how much we sincerely appreciate the sympathy and kindnesses you have shown. Really, there are no words to describe our gratitude but we will say a genuine thank you from our hearts to yours.
Teresa and Spike and I find Casa de Canterbury empty and lonely without Red and Chelsea, and the days longer than Daylight Savings Time. We took a family vacation for the past 10 days in a trip to the mid-west. We had a wonderful time together and a needed break from the haunted rooms at home.
I have missed The Red Man’s commentaries on life as he knew it and have wondered if they could be resurrected somehow. As of today, I haven’t figured out how to do that, but I opted to keep the domain active and the earlier posts available for any who choose to read them again.
I also will keep writing my I’ll Call It blog at http://www.iwillcallit.com. and The Old Woman’s Slow’s Photos at http://www.sraemorrisphoto.com. so I hope to see you there.
Thank you again for your friendship and loyalty to all of us at Casa de Canterbury.
Love and hugs to you from the pack at the Aussie RUC (which is now down to 2 unfortunately). Our beautiful puppies leave us with so many lovely memories and Red and Chelsea’s legacy will live on for a very long time xxxx

Ah, you have also had your share of trials and tribulations this past year, my Aussie RUC amiga. I am so sorry to hear of your loss and hope that the year will get better for both of us. Apparently life doesn’t get easier as we go along. Thank you so very much for your kind words about Red and Chelsea. Take care of yourself.

Big hugs, in time you will know which direction to take, don’t rush it!

Thanks so much, Terry 1954. I don’t think I will rush into anything right now. Take care of yourself, my friend.

I know this sounds crazy but Red could either send you messages or you could have dream conversations with him. . . I was a big fan of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Casper.
Sending you hugs and warm thoughts to all members of su casa.
Missing Red and Tennis Ball Chasing Chelsea. . .
Glad you had a ten day get-away. Sometimes we just need to leave the scene, find new places and thoughts to ease our pain. xo

Robin, that doesn’t sound crazy at all!
As a matter of fact, several Facebook friends have suggested the same thing, but I don’t think I grasped the concept until reading your idea tonight.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir was also one of my favorite TV shows, and maybe Red could be my own personal Casa de Canterbury Ghost.
The Ghost and the old woman Slow – we’ll see- and thanks for thinking of us!
The trip was the
right thing for us. Thanks again.

Happy you didn’t think I belonged in the Looney bin. I enjoy the way Eastern cultures feel spirits live in, along with some folks who sense presences from the “beyond.” My Dad had a large collie who passed away. One time (a week later), Dad was bending over pulling a tree sapling off the lakeside cliff my parents lived on. He felt this sharp pull, and later when taking his pants off, told Mom there were “teeth marks” in his jeans pocket. Mom said she saw about two big spaced evenly “nail holes.” He could have a previous time run into a nail or two, Mom supposed. Dad thought his Nicky collie had saved him from slipping or falling down the cliff! 🙂 I think, “Who knows what can happen?” Let us know if you sense good ole’ Red or silly Chelsea around, please! 🙂

I can definitely relate to your dad’s feelings!! Casa de Canterbury is full of the sights and sounds of Red and Chelsea…I talk to them regularly…now, I have to admit – they have yet to reply. But then, they didn’t do much of that when they were really here, either. 🙂

Glad you’ve kept your options open. Hope the holiday helped ease some of the heartache.

Thanks so much, Annie. The holiday did ease some of the heartache – that’s the best way to describe it, actually. We pretended we were On the Road with Animal Couriers, only we were the Couriers!! 🙂

Well, in that case you’ll have eaten some fine food and walked some great paths!

A friend’s father was a pastor who was a columnist. She is also a columnist who often takes her father’s old columns and riffs usually along the lines of what a wise man her father was. Maybe you could do something similar to keep Red’s attitude and observations moving forward. Hugs from Arizona to the Casa!

That’s a very interesting idea, Luanne. I am apparently lost without The Red Man and TBO Chelsea here at the Casa – along with Spike who now is as depressed as T and I are. We all appreciate the Arizona hugs!!

The stories and pics of The Red Man will be remembered with very fine and warm thoughts, reinforcing such wonderful memories of times gone. It was not just too long ago that we lost our treasured dogs, Betsy Paneah and Becca Rosalinda, to two separate horrific accidental tragedies, none of which can be described in this setting, leaving us a never ending pain and yearning, with only hopes of a brighter future with our wonderful Rocky Bombarde. We shall move forth stronger than ever, boldly taking in the new adventures to come, and time will let us know of what is to come of the next blog from our favorite cousin and author. Those from the new city block (retired from country hill) say, ‘So long, Red and Chelsea, and the dear others, you will never be forgotten. Love forever, church organist (rockyden)

Dearest Rockyden a/k/a Church Organist,
Thank you so much for this most eloquent soliloquy regarding the losses of our beloved children and amigos in the recent past. We will mourn them and love them forever, as we do our family from the new city block that once lived on the country hill. We miss them all and will look forward to a reunion in the future…may we all live long and prosper.
Much love,
Sheila
