Fireworks at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC, USA tonight
as Gamecocks beat Vanderbilt 35 – 25!
Well, Sports Fans the final minutes of this third week of the college football season are ticking down and the mood in our house on Worsham Street is fluctuating between jubilant to despair to indifference and everything in between. Yes, the Cocks won with their usual heart attack ups and downs, but The Red Man is handing out Game Balls to his Favorites.
QB Connor Shaw (#14) kept his cool and Ran and Passed
for dear life and was the Heart of an Efficient Offense
(Brandon Wilds #22 Ran and Caught Passes like nobody’s business, too)
Yes, we were all happy to see the Offense do better with improved play calling on short yardage. Happily, lessons were learned from last week’s Georgia loss and the QB Sneak was alive and well and, I might add, effective against the Commodores at Williams Brice tonight. The defense, on the other hand, was suspect.
Gamecock Fans in the stands look perplexed
Yes, Cock Fans were surprised to see The Red Man’s Personal Favorite Jadeveon Clowney dropping back in coverage rather than pass rushing when Vandy was down by 25 points in the third quarter and everybody in the whole world except one person knew Vandy would have to pass to have a chance in hell of winning. Coach Spurrier definitely knew and resorted to his trademark visor throwing to make it clear to the Defensive Coach who shall remain nameless because he appeared to be the only person in the world who didn’t know. Geez Louise.
Remember me? I’m Jadeveon Clowney
and I sack QBs and force fumbles
Another Game Ball goes to Jadeveon Clowney who made a key sack and forced a fumble at the same time which swung Momentum back to the Cocks. Plus, I just love him anyway so I will give him a Game Ball when i feel like it.
Meanwhile in another game of national importance The Crimson Tide of Alabama rolled into College Station, Texas, just a few miles north of Worsham Street and rolled over The Aggies of Texas A & M.
Coach Nick Saban fired up his Alabama Tide
In a nail-biter, Alabama outlasted the Aggies 49 – 42 and many of our friends and neighbors in the ‘Hood were disappointed as was the Man of the Hour Aggie QB and last year’s Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Manziel.
Another Heisman year? Too soon to tell
Finally, despair set in later tonight when the old woman Slow found out that her Texas Longhorns lost to Ole Miss by the abysmal score of 44 – 23. Ouch. Horns hooked and Coach Brown caught a glimpse of a fat lady singing behind him on the sidelines after the game. And she wasn’t singing The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You. Heh, heh. My little joke for the night.
So the roller coaster ride that is college football comes to an end for us this week and all I can say is Get me outta here Percy…I need some alone time.
I think we are watching the end of an era. I wonder if Mack will get to finish the season out. There are only so many they can fire before it falls on him.

Yes, good point and you won’t believe what a wild thing I heard tonight when I was watching the Gamecocks with my neighbors here in Texas…this friend told me she heard Texas was talking to Nick Saban – rumors, rumors, rumors. I about fainted. 🙂

My mommy knows how tough last week was for the Worsham Street gang, so I think she was almost as excited to see the Gamecocks’ win as she was about her very own LSU Fighting Tigers’ victory. But yesterday’s biggest smile probably game from that Aggie loss. As much as it pained her to cheer for Little Nicky and the Tide, she just could not bring herself to root for the Ags. Roll Tide, just this once. And oh those Horns. My, my, my. Here in Big BR, we have also heard the Satan-to-Texas rumors. It would be interesting to see, and it would get him out of the SEC. Paws crossed on that one, but I doubt it.

Thanks to your mommy for her support of our Cocks – clearly we need all the support we can get! Big games after their bye week next week! LSU rolls on so all is well at Miss Harper Lee’s casa for sure. Could be the year for national glory?? Saban out of the SEC wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea, but we’ll have to see. Horns throw money around like they’re growing it on trees over there in Austin so don’t know. 🙂 Have a good week, Miss Harper Lee.

You reminded me that I have abandoned my Sooners this year because I’ve been so busy. Now I am stricken with severe guilt.
