Editor’s Note: All of us in our family fly our flags at half mast in memory of Paw Licker Annie who succumbed to the vicissitudes of life today. Pretty had her for fifteen years and will never be the same after this loss – and neither will the rest of her family. The good news is she was able to lick her chosen paw right up until the day she drew her last breath. She remained true to her authentic dog self for as long as she lived but allowed a few lucky people periodically to be a part of her world. For this we are very grateful.
I’m so sorry for your loss.

Thank you so much, Luanne. She was the one we felt was more “dog” than any of ours. She was rescued 15 years ago and had a good life with us. We are beyond sorrowful today.

Sheila – My God, I am so sorry. The lump in my throat is tiny compared to the ones you and Theresa are feeling tonight. What a terrible shock for you. Please know you are both much loved and in my thoughts tonight. How I wish you didn’t have to suffer another loss, another sorrow.
Shared tears and warm hugs,

Ann, we have had unspeakable sadness with the loss of ollie and now our beloved Annie who has been with us from our beginning as a family. She was her own unique spirit and very much the grand dame of all of our lives. Her loss is the loss of our oldest child, so we struggle today and will in the days to come, but it’s so good to know we have friends who understand and share our grief. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Thanks so much, Church Organist. You and your country hill brothers were a few of the lucky ones who actually knew Paw Licker Annie and have many memories of your times with her – as we all remember in our own way. Thank you for your standing humbly and in remembrance. Pretty and I appreciate it very much.

Oh my dear Red Man, my humans and I are just back from the Lone Star State. We were a bit disconnected, so we are just learning about your loss. We are all so very sorry. Your remembrance of Paw Licker Annie is lovely. My human mommy knows how absolutely horrible it is to have to say goodbye, especially to such a sweet girl who was in your life for such a long and loving time. Our thoughts are with you and Pretty and Slow, and all those who mourn Miss Annie.

Greetings, Miss Harper Lee,
And thanks to you and your mommy and daddy for the words of sympathy and comfort. We have also been somewhat disconnected during the last week and will hope to be back up to snuff when we can collect our thoughts. Pretty flew to Texas Sunday and picked up Slow and Spike and The Red Man and drove us home to South Carolina where Tennis Ball Obsessed Chelsea was waiting for us. We got in late Tuesday night and are trying to adjust to life without Ollie and Annie.
Pretty said last night that now we are down to three as she looked at us on the bed – and she’s right.
